Frequently Asked Questions: Wellness Warrior Challenge (WWC) 2025

1. What is the Wellness Warrior Challenge?

The Wellness Warrior Challenge is a 3-month wellness programme organised by APU for all full-time staff. The objective is to promote a healthier lifestyle while engaging in a friendly competition.

The primary challenge is for participants to lose weight and improve their body fat percentage. Those with the highest weight and fat percentage loss will be crowned as winners.

2. How does the Wellness Warrior Challenge work?

All registered participants must undergo three mandatory health evaluations and submit their results to the Organiser:

  • 17 June 2025 – Initial Health Screening & Consultation
  • 5 August 2025 – Progress Health Screening & Consultation
  • 17 September 2025 – Final Health Screening & Consultation

Each health screening includes:

  • ✓   Blood pressure measurement
  • ✓   Glucose level reading
  • ✓   InBody body composition scan (including weight in kg and body fat %)
  • ✓   Posture screening
  • ✓   BMI check

Fasting is NOT required for any of the screenings.

Participants will receive a personalised consultation with medical professionals from Columbia Asia Hospital, Bukit Jalil (CAH) during each screening to help guide and monitor their wellness progress.

3. How Are Winners Determined?

After the Challenge concludes, the Organiser will compare each participant’s initial screening (17 June 2025) with the final screening (17 September 2025) to determine winners in two categories:

Highest Weight Loss (in kilograms): The difference in weight (in kg) between the first and third screenings will be calculated. The participant with the greatest weight reduction in kg will be the winner in this category.

Highest Body Fat Percentage Loss: Based on the body fat % values generated from the InBody scans. The participant with the greatest reduction in body fat percentage (e.g., from 32.5% to 25.1%) will be the winner in this category.

A participant can win in both categories if they show the highest reduction in both metrics.

To qualify, participants must complete and submit results for all three health evaluations.

4. What activities are included during the 3-month Challenge?

The Organiser has prepared a variety of wellness-focused activities throughout the 3-month Challenge to help
participants stay motivated and on track toward achieving their health goals. These activities include:

Health Talks by Columbia Asia Hospital (CAH) Specialists:
Nutrition Talk – Learn how to make healthier food choices and understand nutritional needs.

Mental Health Talk – Understand the importance of mental wellness and strategies to manage
stress.

Group Exercise Sessions:
Fun, instructor-led fitness sessions designed for all fitness levels to encourage physical activity and
group motivation.

Healthy Food Day:
A special event to promote clean eating and introduce healthy food options in a fun and engaging way.

1-Month Step Challenge (1–31 August 2025):
A mini challenge within the programme aimed at boosting daily physical activity through step tracking.

Participants are strongly encouraged to take part in all activities, as they are designed to provide the
right knowledge, tools and support to help achieve sustainable wellness results. They are valuable in
helping you maximise your progress and overall wellness journey.

5. What is the 1-month Step Challenge?

Participants must:

  • Use their full name for ID purposes
  • Join the group challenge via a link sent by 30 July 2025

6. How will the steps be tracked?

The steps challenge will be tracked using the StepUp app. It is a free app that can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.

The StepUp app can be synced with most wearables including Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin and many more via Apple Health and Android Health Connect. The app will also work with just your phone if you do not have any wearables or your wearables cannot be synced with the app. All participants are required to get the app ready on their mobile phone before 25 July 2025. Please use full name only to ensure correct participant identification.

7. How will the participants know that their steps are being tracked?

    • By 30 July 2025, an invitation link will be sent to all participants via email/WhatsApp. The link will direct participants to join a group challenge in the StepUp app set up by the Organiser.
    • Participants are required to join the link.
    • Participants’ steps will automatically sync once they use the app.
    • The Organiser will only count the steps from 1 to 31 August 2025. Sample report from the app extracted by the Organiser as follows:

8. Are all activities mandatory to be eligible for prizes?

No, not all activities are mandatory. However, the following rules apply:

  • Health evaluations on 17 June, 5 August, and 17 September are compulsory. Participants must attend and submit their screening results to be eligible for the Weight Loss and Fat Percentage Loss prize categories.
  • Participation in the Step Challenge is optional, but only registered participants of the Wellness Warrior Challenge are eligible to join and compete for the Step Challenge prize.

Other activities such as health talks, group exercise sessions and Healthy Food Day are not compulsory but are strongly encouraged to help participants stay motivated and achieve better overall results.

9. What if I want to withdraw from the Challenge?

If you wish to withdraw, please inform the Organiser in writing via email before the second health evaluation on 5 August 2025. Participants who do not complete all three health evaluations will be disqualified from winning.

10. Can a participant win in multiple categories?

Yes. Participants may win in all three prize categories:

  • Highest Weight Loss
  • Highest Body Fat Percentage Loss
  • Most Steps in the Step Challenge

11. What if there is a tie in results?

In the event of a tie in any of the prize categories, the Organiser will apply the following criteria to determine the winner:

Weight Loss or Fat Percentage Loss:
If two or more participants achieve the same weight loss (in kg) or same body fat percentage reduction, the following will be considered:

The participant who shows the greater overall improvement across both weight and fat percentage will be prioritised.

Example: If Participant A and Participant B both lost 8 kg, but Participant A also reduced body fat by 5.2% compared to 4.1% for Participant B, Participant A will be ranked higher.

If overall improvement is still identical, the participant who showed more consistent progress across all three screenings may be prioritised.

Step Challenge:
If two or more participants have the same total step count from 1–31 August 2025, the following factors will be considered:

The participant who reached the step total earlier during the challenge period may be prioritised.

If still tied, the participant who maintained a more consistent daily step count throughout the challenge (i.e., fewer fluctuations or gaps) may be favoured.

Note: All final decisions regarding tie-breakers rest solely with the Organiser and will be made in a fair and transparent manner based on available data.

12. How will my health and tracking data be used and what will be published?

All health and tracking data submitted will be used strictly for the purpose of the Wellness Warrior Challenge. Your personal information will be kept confidential and handled with care.

Only the difference in weight (in kg) and body fat percentage reduction will be published for the winners—actual before-and-after readings will not be disclosed.

13. When and how the results of the challenge will be published?

The Organiser will announce the winners for all three categories on 30 September 2025 via the official Wellness website and email.

14. When and how will the winners receive their cash prizes?

All winners will receive their cash prizes within two months of the winners’ announcement and the cash will be credited directly into their bank account. The Organiser will inform the winners once the prizes have been credited.
